News Travels Fast

I have 4 sisters and here is our birth order Stacey, Heather, Shilah, Kensay, and Shenylle, I can't imagine life without out them, even with our fair share of drama, tears, and the occasional cat fight. Two of them are expecting babies right now, as in any day, and it is causing quite a buzz in our family. Stacey has one daughter who is almost 10 and we just found out that her newest little one is arriving TOMORROW?!?, we don't know what sex the baby is, which does make it extra exciting(I was never one that could wait to find out). My sister Shilah called me to tell me the news, so as soon as I got off the phone with her, I called Kensay (who was with Stacey), who jumped on the phone and screams I'm having a baby tomorrow...I said, Yes I know....and she says how do you know, I have only known for five minutes! So that is how our lives have always been, if something is going on we all know it in five minutes flat. The other known fact about us is, if you want something to remain a secret, do NOT tell any one of us. It will most certainly be shared amongst the five of us, of course at the time of the secret telling, we all cross our hearts and hope to die that we won't tell a soul, HA...until 30 seconds later we call another sister and have her swear not to tell. This crazy complicated bond is precious to me in ways that I didn't think possible growing up, when all I could think about was getting away from all of them, and living my own life. I don't even know what caused this closeness, other than the fact that we had some pretty amazing role models...in the form of our three Aunts, sisters who also share an incredible bond. This inevitably makes me sad for Maddie, who I hope and pray will have a great relationship with her older brothers, but I already feel that there is hole in her life where a sister should be. I will stay positive that with the slew of cousins, Aunts, and dotting Grammas, she will have more than enough girls/women to share secrets with. Back to the news at hand, I am now scrambling to find a sitter so I can be sitting in a plastic chair tomorrow clasping the hands of my sisters, as we nervously laugh at each other's antics, waiting to welcome a miracle into our big crazy family.

The other major thing that is on my mind this week, is what I was going to give up for Lent...I thought of a few things, coffee(uugghh), the computer(what!?), chocolate(too easy)and then I thought why not meat. It is definitely going to be a challenge, but I am up for it, and as of now it has made me more thoughtful and I am diving in to some new recipes. I also think it is good for us to have to sacrifice something in our lives, let's face it we live in a land where whatever we want, whenever we want it, you can get it. Which doesn't exactly always lead to good decisions....want a bean burrito at 2 am....why not?! So for now, this girl does not eat meat, which leads me to my breakfast recipe that I made up with the things I had on hand, it was delicious and my husband gave me lots of compliments on it!

Sauteed Veggie Frittata
1/2 T butter           1 small summer squash
4 stalks asparagus      2 T diced yellow onion
2T diced red pepper                6 eggs
1/8 c milk          salt and pepper
mozzarella cheese

Preheat your oven to 375 and make sure you are using an oven proof skillet. Melt your butter over med-high heat, add red pepper and onion, cook until soft. Split your asparagus stalks lengthwise and snap off bottoms, add that and sliced summer squash, cook for 5 more minutes. Beat your eggs with the milk and s+p, pour into pan. cook for approx 5 min while occasionally running your rubber spatula around the outside edge to keep the sides from sticking. Sprinkle with cheese and pop into the oven to finish cooking the top, around 7 more minutes, when set loosen the edges and invert onto a plate, sprinkle with a little more cheese....it was so good!!

So enjoy your veggies out there and have a great weekend!

Caution: I am Crafting

Right now my kitchen table and island looks like a construction zone, there should definitely be some of that yellow caution tape up, warning of the dangers that might happen if you were to trip, or upend a stack of this or that. I am not proud of the hows or ways I craft, but I am proud(most of the time) of the finished product. I have several things going on right now, I am helping make Valentine's for school friends, I am making invitations and decorations for Maddie's 1st birthday party, and I am making invitations for my little sister's baby shower. I do realize that I could walk into any old store and buy some pretty darn cute invitations and decorations, and believe me I do not look down upon those that do! I just love the process of finding a design...working out the kinks and bringing it to life. And if any crafter says they don't like the oohs, aaahs, and YOU made thats, that come from making your own, they are LYING! Some of the designs I come up with on my own and some from magazines, but lately, most come from my newest guilty pleasure, Pinterest. It is seriously a stay at home mother's pornography...you start by just taking a peek, seeing what all the fuss is about, and pretty soon you find yourself sneaking out of bed at night to feed your addiction. I refuse to say how many consecutive minutes, *cough cough* hours, I have been on there...but if some good stuff comes from it, ie: recipes, valentines, sugar scrubs, handmade candle holders, then it's worth it right? Ok, ok, I will scroll it back...anyways here are some of the things I am working on this week.
Kt's Valentine's for his class, the hardest part was peeling the label off all the crayons, but I think they are super cute!

Maddie's Birthday invitation, these turned out so cute and I just printed and pasted the party info on the back.

My sister's baby shower invitation, I got this theme idea off Pinterest, and I loved it!

Next time I will share the rest of the gorgeous little details I made for Maddie's Party!
 Have a fabulous day!

Newbie

Eeeek, this is my very first post, so I will introduce myself before I get started on what is going on in my life right now. My name is Heather I am 30 something years old, I have been married to Phill for almost 11 years and have 3 children...KT is 8, Greyson is 3 and Maddie is almost 1.  I kind of feel like that new girl at school that arrives in the middle of the year...I have wanted to blog for awhile but have been hesitant because of all you established bloggers, hence the butterflies in my stomach! I am going to use this blog as a tool to keep memories, share party planning tips, recipes...and any ol' interesting things that creep up in my life. I also wanted to share the origins of my title, well when I got married, I am the lucky girl that received Blewett as my new last name (yes as in I "blew it"). After 11 years, I am totally comfortable with it, but I have heard it all in terms of jokes....anyways I thought up a few titles, but nothing original, until I landed on Blew Berries....tasty tidbits of the Blewett Family! So there you go, my first post...it wasn't so bad and maybe next time I will find someone to sit with at lunch=)
